The Year 9 course builds on the experiences of the Year 8 Surf Science Course.
Surf Coaching: Weekly coaching lessons aim to consolidate the basic skills learnt in Year 8 and allow students to develop intermediate surfing skills. In addition, students are encouraged to continue their surfing through Inter-house and Interschool events. Students will also be exposed to Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) to supplement their surf skills.
Fitness Lessons: Fitness lessons focus on the strength, endurance, flexibility and agility required to improve surfing performance. Cross training and video analysis, including the use of “Streetboardz”, integrating the latest coaching techniques from Surfing Australia. In addition, extension physical activities are included to develop all facets of fitness and foster enjoyment of lifelong participation in physical activity.
Theory lessons: Focus on further developing a student’s knowledge of surfing through modules covering the professional World Tour, competitive surfing, oceanography, careers in the surf industry and travel.
Additional Course Fee: Approximately $450 (cost subject to change) payable in December, prior to starting the course the following year.
Course Length: 2 periods per week plus 1 morning coaching session per week.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Year 8 Surf Science course is a requirement. Students who currently do Surf Science must choose this as their first choice. Students who have not completed this course in Year 8 are NOT eligible to choose this course in Subject Selection Online. Students wishing to participate must see Mr Ndiaye for information about entry to the course or by application (on the College website) if places become available.
This course leads to Year 10 Surf Science.
