History

The Catholic Education Commission determined a need for a new co-educational secondary college in the north coastal corridor in the early 1980's.

For Prendiville College, a Steering Committee met for the first time on July 19, 1983. This committee drew up an education brief that became the basis for planning the new school. Feasibility studies were carried out in the area north of Warwick Road and west of Wanneroo Road. The firm of Cameron, Chisholm and Nicol was selected as Architects. By April, 1985, detailed plans for Stage 1 of the project were ready.

The Catholic Education Commission then made the important decision to proceed immediately with the project. February, 1986, was fixed as the opening date of the new school.

An Interim School Board was formed with Michael Taylor as Chairman in April 1985, for the period of construction and the first year of the school operation. The building contract for Stage 1 was awarded to Universal Constructions. In June the Foundation Principal, Mr.W.Woodruff, was appointed, and proceeded immediately to enrol students and appoint staff for 1986.

The first class took place on Monday, February 10, 1986, with an attendance of 81 students.

Stage 1 was completed in July of that year at a cost of $2,286,600. On Sunday, April 13, 1986, the College was blessed by Archbishop Foley and officially opened by the Premier, The Hon. Brian Burke.
